At this point in the story of the world the tragic killing of George Floyd becomes a cause for worldwide protests, but also the occasion for a funeral for everyone who cares about the state of humanity. It is a sorrowful, painful way of learning how we truly are all in this together.
After a profound poem from Emily Dickinson, Michael Meade intones an ancient funeral poem from Zaire written to honor the natural nobility of the person passing to the other world. Meade concludes by saying, “There's been a lot of suffering and a lot of unnecessary death, but maybe, if we can be in a funeral together, maybe, if we learn from death together, we can learn to truly live together. Maybe then “a change is going to come.”
